With the sundering of Dhwer-dhur, the fabric of reality was shattered. This cosmic rending split the prime plane into many fragments, creating the astral plane, the material plane, the ethereal and shadow plane, the inner planes, and outer planes.

Plane Descriptions

Material Plane: the primary remains of the unified plane, where mortals dwell.

Ethereal Plane: a mirror image of the material plane, the ethereal plane is a fragment of the material plane, created when the material plane was stretched across the universe.

Plane of Shadows: a distortion of the material plane, the plane of shadows was created at the same time as the ethereal plane.

Inner Planes: the elemental and energy planes are infinite in size and resources. By removing them to the inner planes, the gods limited the power of the Teutā, and mortals to follow.

Outer Planes: The divine moved their homes from, what is now known as the material plane, to the outer.

Astral Plane: torn from the prime plane, the astral connects all the disjointed planes. Just as how the ethereal plane and plane of shadows were created, the astral plane was created when the planes were separated into inner, outer, and material.

The Great Barrier

To a native of the material plane, movement to the inner and outer planes is simply something one can do with the right spells or finding a naturally forming rift. However, to those non-native beings, finding access to the prime material plane (Rathe and her 7 sibling Otherworlds) is like coming up against a brick wall. It isn't a matter of having the right spell or finding a natural rift, rather one must find alternative ways to gain entry. An individual all ready upon the material plane must call an outsider to it, which for ages has made travel into the material plane nearly impossible for those existing outside of Rathe and the Otherworlds.

However, there have been times where the Great Barrier has weakened, and beings of great power have found their way upon the world of Rathe, either through sheer luck or eons of careful planning. However, weakening in the Great Barrier is a rare occurrence, and even with great foresight, the weakening of the Great Barrier or the opening of a Gate is apparent only moments before it is to occur.

The Great Barrier was placed upon the world of Rathe and the material plane when the gods sundered the world of Dhur-Diewos many ages ago. For what reasons other than the obvious difficulties this has caused for Outsiders, no one knows why the Great Barrier came into existence, or, if the Gods truly placed it there, why it came to be. The actual mechanics behind the existence of the Great Barrier has been a great cause of contention with those of learned pursuits, although this study and debate exists much more upon the outer planes than upon the material plane.
